I spent a few days at Paul’s garage workshop
after some convincing. Wanting to learn more about the glassing process has
been something I’ve wanted to do for a while, after having a few boards glassed
by the man himself.
I learned why matt finish boards are
faster than polished boards. He taught me a lot about the process of glassing.
There’s so much knowledge that he’s got stored up, from glassing boards for 20+
plus years. Working on boards for about every shaper in Jbay, he has really refined
his knowledge/skill about glassing.
It was really educational watching him
glass one of my fishes. I have a new found respect for glassers and sanders.
Not the easiest work to do.
Every surfboard that I build is glassed by Paul. I use the best resins and cloth available in South Africa. Glassing all boards to have longevity and many years of good surf. I build every board as though it were my own. It needs to have good speed and performance capabilities together with a high build quality. Every detail is important.
